Skating

Who could have imagined that a boy from the swamps of Louisiana would one day become a member of the USA Olympic ice-skating team in 1984? From humble beginnings—selling handmade tickets to his friends to watch him twirl on Sears and Roebuck roller skates in his dad’s printing shop—Burt’s extraordinary talent propelled him onto the world stage. He became a US Junior World team skater and a five-time World team member. In 1987, Burt achieved international acclaim by winning the prestigious World Professional Pairs Championship in Jaca,
Spain. His career took him across the globe, performing with Ice Capades, the Torvill and Dean World Tour, and Lido de Paris, before retiring after nine years as a principal variety act in Las Vegas’s legendary show “Enter the Night.” True to his word—he never wanted to be working in spandex at forty—Burt transitioned to coaching figure skating and hockey. In 2012, he left
skating behind to take on his most important role yet: stay-at-home dad and devoted husband.
